THE CRANE WIFE
Album Cover Redesign
The Decemberists’ 2006 album, The Crane Wife, recalls a somber Japanese folktale of a crane-turned-woman who plucks her feathers to weave tapestries for her unwitting husband to sell. As her husband grows greedy, she reveals her true nature and flies away, never to return. To represent the crane’s intricate weaving, Japanese paper was folded into a feather-like herringbone pattern using miura-ori tessellation.
